4 Hour Workweek

If you ever want to read a book that turns you on your head, this is it!  Tim Ferris shares the philosophy of the new rich in this book, and I have to say I can’t wait to join!

It talks about Tim’s disgust with the typical climb of success, where people work 40-50 years of long endless hours. However in the process barely recognizing their family and friends, only to suffer from all sorts of ailments due to stress.  The “New Rich” values are freedom, balance, and not working like crazy for the first 50 years then do nothing at all.  He recommends taking three long vacations a year, studying martial arts, languages, dance or whatever you fancy. By doing this you enrich your life by enjoying the freedoms life has to offer.  He also shares travel tips that shows you that the desire to be a globetrotter is a lot cheaper than you ever imagined.

He also goes into details about the benefits of having a product-based company over a service-based company. This is due to streamlining procedures, and thus giving you the freedom to operate a four hour work week.  He himself preaches and lives this philosophy.  He promotes in order to work a four hour week you have to advocate an information light diet. Then set your boundaries to become more efficient at your job, and stop others from dragging and wasting your time from useless meetings.  Keep everything to email to speed things up and stop people from bothering you from meaningless chatter.  He promotes putting on headset and pretending to talk on the phone when co-workers approach.

He provides a business model with several case studies to demonstrate how someone can operate a profitable business using a four hour work week.  This eliminates the need to produce products, worries about transportation, or other time consuming administrative duties. He also advocates the use of online auctions to see if there is interest in your new product before starting a business.  Make sure you get the order first before investing into your business.

Time he says is our most valuable asset, so we must be vigilant about protecting it.  This book is full of resources, with step-by-step instructions and lots of humour.  You can get it a Chapters for $26.00, there is also the website you can look up www.fourhourworkweek.com
