Social Butterfly Club Monthly Newsletter - Nov 09

November 2009 Newsletter

Healthy Home, Safer Environments

Have you ever just wasted valuable time on Craigslist looking for good deals or freebies?? I’m always on there to look for good events, and wicked deals on facials, and spas or ways to relax. I found a posting and got involved as a volunteer environmental outreach for the Chinese Community on a project put on by the Frasier Basin and The Georgia Straight Alliance. We spent four Sundays learning the impact of chemicals from typical household cleaners on humans and the environment; and learning about climate change, and how farm salmon is destroying the local ecology of wild salmon and is very quickly wiping them out completely due to fish lice.

The volunteers are currently looking for a public event to participate in to educate the public about home made safe household cleaners, climate change, and salmon. If you’re involved with a community event (eg: Chinese New Year Celebration) that will have a lot of Mandarin speakers in attendance, please get in touch with me. Thank you.

Did you know that among the 80,000 chemicals listed with the EPA that are used in common household cleaners, only 20% have been tested for safety? Children have developed many respiratory health problems, and adults seem to have developed a range of symptoms and issues such as headaches, allergy, skin rash, and chest pain.

Below are great tips for creating pure and natural cleaning products for your home. It can protect you and your FAMILY, not just the planet. FIND OUT HOW YOU can live a healthier life.

Disinfectant Spray:
2 cups water
1 cup vinegar
2 teaspoons eucalyptus essential oil

This is a dry scrub, good for a shaker container.

Uplifting Spray:
1.5 oz water
1.5 oz vodka
8 drops of lavender essential oil

Great way to freshen the bathroom or any room.  I’ve been a long time Melaleuca user, and I’m very grateful for the fact that they’re all-natural and environmentally friendly in all their products. The Sol-U-Mel has removed wine from light carpets, as well as blood stains and other tough to clean jobs!

Twitter-mania

I recently went to a local internet marketing mastermind meet up, and was overwhelmed by the insights and tools that the panel of speakers shared. It’s a good thing that they forwarded the PDF and the links from the presentation, so I’m attaching it to this newsletter to share with you! I have yet to test some of it out, as I’m still learning to navigate on twitter. Twitter is micro-blogging, a social media outlet for 120 words or less, to stay in touch. But obviously there are many ways to leverage this for business purposes like a viral campaign, contests, customer service, research, networking etc. Have fun, and don’t try everything at once or else your head will explode.  One resource is www.bleezed.com/TwitterTools.pdf

Dress for Success and Working Gear
Dress for Success - The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find jobs and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work.

Dress for Success serves clients by referral only, and women must have an interview scheduled before receiving clothing. If you would like to use this service, you must be a client of Multicultural Helping House Society, then call Alice Zhou, the job developer to book an appointment.
While Dress for Success may be best known for providing suits to women, it is our employment retention programs that are the cornerstone of the organization. Soon after Dress for Success was founded we came to recognize that finding work is only one step in a woman's journey towards economic independence; remaining employed and building a rewarding career are essential if a woman is to become self-sufficient. To meet the need for services that would help women both find and keep jobs, Dress for Success established the Professional Women's Group (PWG) program and developed the Career Center to further serve the working woman’s needs.  They're located at 675 W. Hastings St. Vancouver, BC.  They're always recruiting for more volunteers and clothing donation as well as monetary donation as they're a self sufficient non profit.
